In January 1997, Vanity Fair published a spread of all-male film composers who were successful at the time. Danny Elfman can be seen in the bottom left of the image, with his hands raised and palms facing outward.
For New Years 2022, The Female Composer Safety League posted an image of members of FCSL that mirrors the 1997 Vanity Fair spread.
The apparent purpose of the copycat image is to call attention to the fact that film composing has always been a male-dominated industry.
However, after the allegations against Danny by Nomi have come to light, we find it interesting that in the copycat image, Nomi chose to place herself in Danny's position (bottom left), imitating his pose (hands raised, palms out).
Here is how the post appeared on Facebook:
The Female Composer Safety League is a non-profit organization that Nomi founded several years after the settlement and non-disclosure agreements had been signed with Danny. By this point, Nomi had already "won" against her alleged abuser and was receiving payments from him as agreed in their settlement. Far be it from us to tell a victim how to process their trauma, but this behavior seems odd to us. It makes us wonder if Nomi is attempting to get Danny's attention, taunt him, or even threaten to replace him. Even more so when we found that when posted on Twitter, the original image was posted upside-down and in black-and-white.

Those of us behind this website who identify as survivors of sexual violence agree that we generally do not try to make contact or attract the attention of our abusers. However, perhaps this is Nomi's attempt to take back her power. If so, who are we to judge?
